DRINKS TO CELEBRATE MOTHERS DAY 2018

“Dear Mum, Happy Mothers Day!

I know you spend a lot of time on the iPad ordering plants and clothes, however I doubt you’ ll ever read this: in fact, you’d probably be shocked to learn that I’m writing about you this Mothers Day in Cotswold Allure Magazine! Despite the fact I spend a lot of time travelling around the country, educating people about wines, beers and spirits, rather than spending quality time with you, I really am eternally grateful for everything you’ve done, and I know you’ll keep a beady eye on my Facebook page to ensure I’m not up to no good! You’ll be pleased to know I’ve made a commitment to travel back and see you and Dad more, and if you happen to stumble across this article this Mothers Day, I know I’ll have to stick to it!

So here is a selection of drinks that I’m sure you’ll really like, I’ve even included a selection of my favourites from your love of South Africa, which became apparent after you somehow got upgraded to First Class whilst travelling there . I’m sure there are Mothers up and down the country who would love to have a glass raised to them with these too this Mothers Day. So, put your feet up, let Dad get on with the list of decorating you’ve given him and enjoy the day, preferably with a glass in your hand.

Love Matthew xxx “

G.H.Mumm Cordon Rouge Rose Brut NV , France

Here’s some Mumm for Mum! Filled with a romas of fruits of the forest and pink grapefruit, individual hints of strawberry, cherry and redcurrant then dominate on the palate leading into delicate scents of caramelised vanilla on the finish. Delicious and thoroughly rewarding!

Jenkyn Place Brut , England

Apple & brioche flavours shine in this perfect apéritif wine. Ok, it’s not Shakespeare’s finest but the flavours that are displayed in the glass are as rewarding as iconic poetry. This Engli sh sparkling wine made from the classic grape varieties of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier is produced in the rolling hills of Hampshire. It boasts delightful fruit – filled aromas, high crisp acidity, plenty of bubbles and a hint of minerality on a broad mid – palate.

Morgenhof Estate Merlot , South Africa

This is a smooth and luxuriously rich red wine made from Merlot grapes showing delightful plum fruit notes and a whisper of smoky oak. Made by winemaker Jacques Cilliers at the exce llent Morgenhof estate.

Cotswolds Distillery Dry Gin

Cotswolds Dry Gin has a delectable blend of nine carefully – considered botanicals. The expression of th is traditional London dry style comes from the maceration into the pure wheat spirit of juniper, coriander and angelica root, which have been left for 12 hours to allow their flavour characteristics to fully infuse. Complimented with a sprinkling of lavender from nearby Snowshill, it is perfect tonic for a Mothers Day a fternoon.

Paul Mas Viognier/Sauvignon Blanc , Southern France

The Paul Mas family has a winemaking tradition of over 100 years with this tropical fruit delight being a favourite amongst consumers. Refreshingly crisp, this blend of two popular grape varieties combines the voluptuous notes of juicy peaches and cream from the Viognier with the bright citrus freshness of the Sauvignon Blanc.
